Participation now! - Day three at the Youth Summit 2008

back to result start page | Day One | Day Two | Day Three

The working process was started at the plenary like the day before. After that a visit of the European Parliament was one of the highlights before the final debate. All participants had the chance to have a closer look into the heart of political discussions and decisions in Europe. They saw the parliament and they had the chance to have a seat in rooms the politicians are using during the session week. After this visit the participants knows that there is one session week per month at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

At the afternoon the final debate with members of the local councils and people who are working for elected members of the European Parliament took place.
The final debate at the Centre européen de la jeunesse looked a bit like a debate at the European Parliament. Phones for all participants and visitors and interpreters in three languages made it easier for them to understand what’s going on. There was also a moderating person by this debate. Each group showed the politicians from local council and persons who wok in offices for elected deputies in charge of Europe their point of view and possible ways of solutions. After that a conversation between the youngsters and the politicians began. The politicians asked questions like what can the youngsters do, to turn the situation into better conditions. Also the youngsters had the possibility to give a feedback to the politicians. Some asked why didn’t they react on issues depending the youth in Europe or why didn’t they have ideas from young people in Europe in mind.

But the final debate is not the end of the "participation-now!" project. From 4th to 5th of July 2009 a final conference in Lodz will take place. At this conference all participants who are also joined the Youth Summit at Strasbourg will be there to find out what happened to the topics in the meantime.
